Laptops

Laptops are great for convenience and computing on-the-move but rarely compete with a desktop PC if you need ultimate power and super-fast processing speeds. They are tremendously useful for those who travel a great deal.

Advantages

Take it with you: in the garden on summer mornings or evenings, when traveling and to your favourite coffee shop! This is a wonderful advantage, especially if you have wireless internet access — the convenience of being able to compute anywhere in the house, office or on the train is hard to beat. You may need an extra battery for those long plane journeys.

Laptops take up less space on your desk or in your office.

Laptops use less power. If you tend to leave your computers on frequently, a laptop will draw considerably less power, which can save you money in the long term.

Disadvantages

A laptop easier to steal or damage than a desktop unit, especially since you often use it away from your home/office. Keep it close to you — you do not want to lose all of your bank logins, passwords, digital pictures, emails etc. Leave that to the government!

A laptop costs more than a desktop with the same specifications.

It has a smaller monitor and keyboard than a desktop PC. (You can always add an external monitor, keyboard and mouse but that costs extra money.)

A laptop is more expensive to upgrade or repair.
