iMac repair original

Customer booked in their Apple iMac 27” A1419 as it was not booting into the Mac OS Partition. On inspection/diagnosis I found that the internal hard drive was faulty. Customer agreed to have a Samsung 4TB SSD fitted. This repair is a very difficult as the iMac screen is attached by incredibly adhesive tape and you need to make sure that the screen comes off without breaking as it would be an expensive for us to replace. Due to this I really take my time removing the screen. I have done so many now I have perfected the removal procedure.

See picture of iMac with the screen successfully removed.

As soon as I removed the screen I cleaned the inside which I always find very dusty. I also then attach the replacement adhesive tape to the iMac.

See picture below of a clean iMac and replacement adhesive tape attached (still with the faulty hard drive installed).

I have now removed the faulty hard drive and fitted the Samsung 4TB SSD and also used a 3.5” to 2.5” bracket to fit it in correctly.

Once all fitted. I then proceed to temporarily attach the screen so that I can install the Mac OS and test the iMac fully before removing the sticky adhesive strips. Once initial testing was completed I proceeded to attach the screen, this time sticking it to the chassis.

This iMac has been totally transformed with the new SSD drive and performs to an exceptinal level providing the customer with a very fast computer. If you are looking to upgrade or repair your Apple iMac, Power Computing can fix it for you. We are based in Kempston, Bedfordshire on the Woburn Road Industrial Estate.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

One of my favourite jobs. A customer asked me to upgrade their anti-virus and clean the PC up. The computer was purchased from us in 2013 and has a 2nd Generation intel i3 and 4GB of Memory. I explained to the customer that I could upgrade their anti-virus and upgrade the memory to 8GB, in addition i could Transfer all data, settings and programmes to a solid state drive which would guarantee that the computer will feel like a brand new super quick PC. The customer agreed and I told him that the computer will be ready the next day. This PC had become so slow, which they probably got used to and didn't know any different. Once I cloned all the data and programmes I ran a full health check and cleanup, this PC now boots up in 10secs and is ready to use. I highly recommend that if you are not looking for a new PC let Power Computing give your PC a new lease of life by adding an SSD and performing a cleanup.

We have just started building Gaming PCs with the newly released Nvidia GTX 1660 Super Graphics card. This graphics card is at the right price point for Gaming and is an amazing choice if you are looking for a Gaming PC. This graphics card replaces the Nvidia GTX 1660 and GTX 1660 TI and is at the price point of the GTX 1660 so well done Nvidia in releasing this graphics card at the correct price point.

I believe this graphics card is definitely a good choice for a gaming pc. So to summarise to make a good affordable Gaming PC choose at least an intel i3 9100 CPU, 16GB of ram if possible 8GB is fine a SSD drive 480GB minimum or 1TB as they are very affordable now and without question the Nvidia GTX 1660 Super Graphics Card. In fact I have made up a great specification PC on our PreBuilt Section please click on the link below to have a look or order. Video included is a video of how the PC will look 😀

Customer had dropped their Asus laptop. This laptop bezel surround was actually glued to the front surround of the lid. I managed to remove it carefully without damaging any cables inside and keeping the bezel intact. Also we fortunately had the 13.3” Laptop Screen in stock to complete this repair the very same day. Picture of the new screen fitted. All I need to do now is attach and reglue the bezel to the screen.
Already for customer to collect. If you are looking for computer and laptop repairs in Kempston Bedford Bedfordshire then trust us to repair the item for you.

Customer's iMac A1419 27" screen was diagnosed as faulty. Now this screen is glued to the metal frame of the iMac. I carefully removed the Screen without cracking it, as this is part of the fun and requires expertise to do so. It's great feeling when you have carefully removed the screen wheather faulty or working as some jobs require you to replace the internal faulty hard drive and you need to make sure that a working iMac screen is removed without breaking it otherwise you could end up making the job beyond economical repair. I have to say that i have not broken one yet as I have been extremely careful and have been shown the correct way to do so. These types of screens glued to the iMac casing have been around since 2012.

I have opened the faulty iMac up and removed the hard drive . Getting ready to fit the SSD drive to the iMac. Parts needed was a Samsung SSD 860 1TB, 2.5” to 3.5” Adapter, OWC Temperature Control cable required instead of using fan control utility software.
One of our customers contacted us explaining that the iMac was running very slow and kept crashing. I diagnosed the problem to be a faulty hard drive. The best course of action was for us to replace the faulty hard drive for a super fast Solid State Hard Drive (SSD). Customer also included their Time Machine backup therefore I could install the lastest backup to the replacment Samsung SSD.
This is me fitting the SSD to the iMac. Next job is to clean the dust inside and transfer customers data from a time machine backup
All clean ready to refit screen

Fully Stripped HP Laptop ready to fit new fan to motherboard and SSD

Customer booked in their HP Laptop repair because the laptop was running very slowly and kept crashing. Also informed us that when picking the laptop up when on, the fan would make whirring noises. I diagnosed the laptop. The problem was the hard drive and the fan that cools the system down. I advised customer that we should take this opportunity to change the faulty HD to a super-fast SSD drive and replace the internal fan for a new replacement as the laptop is in very good condition and only 18months old. So if you you have a laptop that you feel is worth fixing then call Power Computing on 01234 851500. We are PC laptop repair specialists in Kempston Bedford Bedfordshire.

New and Old PC
The customer brought the PC in to us as it had become really slow and, when left off for a while, it would make a horrible noise for a few minutes when turned on. The customer also expressed their concern that their data was not backed up and there were a lot a valuable pictures that were important to retain.
Upon inspection of the PC we quickly discovered that the noise was due to the AMD HD 5870 Graphics Card fan failing. The hard drives were also on their last legs, being nearly 8 years old, and were the main cause of the slowness. We advised that to replace the graphics card and hard drives would not be economical as the PC was so old and other components were likely to follow in failure.
The customer was very pleased with how their current Custom Intel i7 PC had worked for them so far and how long it lasted, that they were happy for us to specify and build a new Custom Intel i7 to get them out of trouble and see them into the future.
New Intel i7 Coffee Lake Custom PC
After discussing the customer's requirements we put together a specification for a new Custom PC to transfer all of the data on to based on our Custom Intel i7 Coffee Lake PC. The new PC consisted of the very latest 8th Gen Intel i7 8700K, 16GB DDR4 RAM, A super fast 500GB Samsung 960 EVO M.2 Solid State drive as the boot and operating drive with a 1TB Western Digital Hard Drive for backup. As the customer also occasionally plays games, and has family that also like to play games on the PC, we included an nvidia GTX 1060 3GB graphics card which is far superior to the old graphics card but not over the top for the customer's intended use.
After the new PC was built and a fresh copy of Windows 10 was installed, all of the customer's data was then copied across from their old Hard Drive and the customer's Office and Norton software was re-installed. When all of the work was finished we then set and ran the backup to ensure the customer's files will now be safe.
The speed difference on the new PC is phenomenal! As you can see from the video, the boot time is extremely fast and using the PC is even more responsive. We are confident that the customer will be more than satisfied with their new Custom Intel i7 Coffee Lake PC and that they will get many years of happy use out of it, also keeping their mind at rest that all of their data is being backed up.

SSD Fitted and Encryption Setup

Customer came in to our store, after a loyal customer's recommendation, to express her concerns that her laptop was running very slow and as a financial advisor she required her data to be encrypted if stolen. The customer was prepared to buy a new laptop. However, I advised to her that the laptop is in amazing condition and of good specification meaning it would be more beneficial & economical to upgrade rather than replace. So, the upgrade path that we agreed on was to replace the traditional slow mechanical Hard Drive for a super-fast SSD and upgrade to Win10 Pro which includes BitLocker and we checked that this was sufficient as an encryption method.

Fitted SSD and Installed Win10 Pro from fresh and setup tested the encryption. Customer collected the laptop and I called the customer a few days later to find out how it’s going. She said that we did an amazing job and was so happy with the speed of the laptop and felt safe knowing that her data was secure.

A customer from Bedford required a new battery to be fitted inside their Apple Mac Book Pro 15". If you think that this is an easy task, you are mistaken. This Battery is glued to the top chassis. You must be so careful not to damage any components or cables that are found to be underneath the battery. You will find that the battery is glued to the trackpad and will result in damage if not removed with extreme care. To remove this battery takes well over 40mins. This picture shows the battery removed & ready to fit the replacement.

We build many different types of Custom PCs here at Power Computing, catering to many different uses and applications.

One type of PC we build, that is often overlooked, is a Multi Monitor PC. These PCs are designed to be connected to 2, 4 or 6 displays (and anywhere in-between) to allow many windows to be open and fully visible at once.

The main application for this type of PC is as a Trading PC to keep track of stocks and shares. This requires a lot of windows open at once to be able to view and keep track of as many share prices as possible.

To make it possible to connect more displays, the PC needs to have dedicated video cards. As this PC was customised to connect 4 displays it contains 2 separate video cards, each supporting up to 2 displays each.
For more than 4 displays system would either require an additional video card of the same type, or different video cards that support more than 2 displays each.

As the customer was also concerned about noise levels, we ensured that the video cards we used were passive (no fans) and added a large cooler to the CPU to further reduce the noise output. As a result, this PC runs almost silent and will not disturb anyone.

To ensure this PC has the best performance possible, aside from containing an Intel i7 CPU, we added 2 Samsung 250GB 960 EVO M.2 Solid State Drives. These 2 drives running independantly would give impressive speeds, but we went one step further and combined their speed (and capacity) to give a single 500GB drive running at blistering speeds, preventing any latency accessing and saving files.

With these 2 drives working together Windows boots up in no time at all and any programs will load instantly.

We were very excited to build this dream custom gaming PC at our site in Kempston, Bedford. This PC was specified by one of our customers as they wanted an all-singing and all-dancing gaming PC. And what a beast it turned out to be! We didn't want to let it go when we finished.

Boasting an Intel Kaby Lake core i7 7700K effortlessly overclocked to 5GHz and two EVGA GTX 1080Ti Founders Edition in SLI, this system is ready to tackle any game in any format, including 4K and VR.
Also included in the system are two Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD drives running in RAID Stripe, resulting in extremely fast boot times and practically non-existent load times.

All of this was expertly cased in the elegant Corsair Graphite 780T, allowing for masses of airflow and future upgradability (not that it is needed).

In our video we have coupled the system with the Asus ROG Swift PG278QR monitor, which runs at 2560x1440 resolution and 144Hz (overclockable to 165Hz with the press of a button). Also featured on this monitor is Nvidia's G-Sync technology, which synchronises the framerate with the refresh rate to eliminate stutter and screen tearing resulting in a seamless and immersive experience.
You will also notice the Asus Cerberus Gaming keyboard & mouse bundle, which we are currently offering at a very appealing price with a free bundled Asus ROG mousepad (Also in the video).

Due to the excessive spec of this PC it would also be perfect as a high-end Editing PC ... in fact anything you want a PC for, this custom PC would handle it with ease!

As you can see we use Full Retail products in our systems rather than OEM or BULK parts, where possible, to ensure the very best in quality.

Here is a picture of the components nicely stacked up before the build process began!

After unboxing the components and assembling the CPU, RAM and M.2 drives we laid them out nicely for a picture before starting to fit them into the case.

We always try to choose the best combination of components to go into all of our systems; matching not only performance but looks as well, we know how important this is when buying or building a top end gaming PC.

Once the components are fitted and the front panel, fans etc. are connected, it is then time to fit and connect up the power supply. This picture shows the build process before the power supply is installed.

The power supply cables add a lot of the bulk (and usually clutter) to almost any PC, so this picture shows you how much additional space there is before the PSU takes over!

Due to the Power Supply being modular, there aren't masses of unused cables and connectors to try and hide away, meaning that the PC still looks extremely tidy after everything is fitted.
Naturally we ran Futuremark's 3DMark benchmarking software to see how this PC performed and it achieved the following results (without any tweaking of graphics card overclocking);
  • FireStrike (1080P): 29640
  • FireStrike Extreme (1440P): 20562
  • FireStrike Ultra (4K): 12152
